Capiz Tea Light Holder | Gemstone Lotus | Amethyst
With three rings of translucent capiz shell "petals", this handmade tea light holder is designed in the shape of an open lotus flower. In ancient Asian culture, the lotus flower is said to represent individual progress toward enlightenment. The shell edges and bases are black, giving each tea light holder a dramatic and clean, contemporary look.
Use with wax, battery-powered tea light, or small votive candle.
Capiz is a beautiful province in the heart of the Philippines, but this culturally rich region is also known for decorations derived from nature. Windowpane oysters are native to the Philippines and their outer shells were originally harvested from the shallow coastal waters off the coast of Panay. Once cleaned, these shells are naturally translucent and are often referred to as capiz shells. When painted, these shells offer a vibrant interplay between light and color.
Single capiz shells are extracted by hand and individually placed in the handcrafted metal frame of the lotus flower by craftsmen who then polish, paint, and lacquer each individual piece until it glows with color and vibrancy. The family businesswho makes these tea lights supports many talented artists and craftsmen, giving them an opportunity to make a fair living.
Packaged in a clear box, with insert describing capiz shells.
